Our Ghost Tour

After hearing many guests speak highly of The Beechworth Ghost Tour, we decided to experience it for ourselves. After much debate, we decided on the Midnight Tour, (the witching hour), which ran for approximately 2 hours.

When the night in question arrived, the three intrepid ghost hunters drove the 30 mins to Beechworth, with much speculation as to what awaited us. After issuing strict orders of "no touching", and "please stay in front/behind me" the female member of our party reluctantly exited from the vehicle upon arrival at La Trobe.

These magnificent grounds and buildings were just begging to be explored, and we could almost see the imaginary mist drifting in front of us as we made our way to reception. There we were greeted by Sharon, dressed in a 1800s' Matrons uniform, which set the scene immediately. After paying our fee, the female member availed herself of Sharons offer of a lantern for the more cowardly members of the group.

Winding our way up the great driveway, we found ourselves at the entrance of the asylum, where Sharon proceeded to inform us of the ease of being committed back in the 1800's and the reason why the asylum was built on a hill. (I wonder how many "nagging" wives would be around today if this system of committment were still around?)

Moving through the buildings, Sharon was full of factual knowledge and certainly built the "chill factor" up for everyone.

Many of the group that evening experienced strange events. Unexplained footsteps were heard, certain people became overwhelmed with heat which caused them to perspire profusely, despite the 5 degree temperatures, faces were being brushed by unseen objects and some guests were overcome with nausea.

Even if you don't believe in ghosts, the tour is well worth the trip purely for the historical factor alone.

The final chilling story of the night left everyone exiting the grounds in a hurry for the relative warmth and safety of their cars, and we drove home full of excitement and just a little apprehension from the nights events.
